Time Magazine picks the World’s Greatest Architecture

Last month Time Magazine revealed their picks for the 100 greatest places in 2018. There are some incredible pieces of architecture on the list, including structures from around the world. For example there are great places to visit, top picks for where to stay, and also ideas for where to eat and drink. As one of the most passionate architects London has, we wanted to look at some of these designs.

To Visit

Design Society – Shenzen, China

This amazing building was designed by Fumihiko Maki, one of the most famous Japanese architects. It is an innovative design that encourages visitors to think about the exhibits they are seeing. The dedicated design centre is the very first of its type in China.

Elbphilharmonie – Hamburg, Germany

There are iconic concert venues around the world with striking designs as well as wonderful acoustics inside. This design from Herzog and de Meuron falls into that category and ticks all of the right boxes. The stunning white acoustic panels made from gypsum fibre are vital, absorbing and scattering sound effectively.

Cau Vang – Ba Na Hills, Vietnam

Imagine seeing two giant stone hands rising from the mountains to support a golden bridge. This is exactly what you get here. It is 500 feet long and 3,280 feet above sea level. As a result of the height, visitors can enjoy stunning views on their way from the cable car to the gardens.

To Stay

Icehotel365 – Jukkasjarvi, Sweden

The thing with most ice hotels is they only last for part of the year before melting. This hotel is open year round and uses sustainable solar power to keep temperatures constant. Almost all of the contents are made from ice, including the hotel bar and beautiful ice sculptures throughout.

Wilderness Safaris Bisate Lodge – Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

These eco-friendly villas are situated above the National Park in a wonderful setting. Visitors can enjoy the unique architecture and also have the chance to see families of gorillas in the area. Staying here is also good for the area because part of the fees go to reforestation, local villages, and protecting the wildlife.

Conrad Maldives – Rangali Island, Maldives

This resort has made headlines a number of times for the facilities it offers. Firstly there is an underwater restaurant with transparent walls so diners can see the sealife. In addition they are planning to open a new residence that has floors submerged 16 feet beneath the surface of the ocean.

You can view all 100 destinations on the Time website. There are plenty of stunning things to discover.
