RIBA Regent Street Windows

Regent Street Windows is one of the most interesting architectural competitions of the year. It gives RIBA selected architects the opportunity to work in collaboration with renowned businesses on the street. Their task is to create stunning window displays that celebrate the brands, good design, and attract customers. Therefore, it can have a really positive impact on the commercial architecture in the area.

Smeg

Coffey Architects was happy to be part of the competition for 2018. We worked in collaboration with Smeg to create a detailed display. Our design was inspired by a cast iron pan stand that is part of one of their new range. It is an intricate geometric pattern that represents the heritage of the brand whilst simultaneously attracting the eye.

One of the most incredible things about the window display is how the cast iron creates a beautiful shadow. It is a wonderful effect and really makes the whole design stand out.

Other designs

In total there are six other projects as part of the competition. The designs are all incredible, utilising different materials as well as exploring unique ideas. The window for L’Occitane by Nicholas Szczepaniak Architects stands out because it explores the relationship between light and smell. This really celebrates the brand.

Jo Malone London has one of the most intricate window displays. It was designed by Thomas-McBrien Architects working with Paper & Wood. The theme is a secret garden. All of the flowers and plants are handmade from paper. As a result it offers a really immersive experience and a sense of being in the garden whilst being just off a busy shopping street.

Best Collaboration

At the end of May RIBA will hold a ceremony at its London headquarters to reveal the winners of the competition. There will be prizes for Best Collaboration as well as People’s Choice. Voting is open until May 13th so you can have your say on which display you think is the best.

Commercial architecture is an exciting field, whether it is designing window displays or entire properties. The Coffey Architects team is passionate and loves this kind of work. If you have any questions or would like to discuss ideas with us, please feel free to get in touch.
