The Retrofit Awards are coming up

We know the importance of putting in the hard work for exhibitions, competitions and the variety of architectural awards that occur throughout the year in the UK. Amongst the most prestigious awards in the architectural sector are the Retrofit Awards, which cover public, private and commercial architecture, recognising the best work accomplished by architects from across the entire country. This year’s ceremony is set to take place on the 16th of September at The Brewery in London.

The awards are run by The Architects’ Journal, which has been running since 1986. One of Britain’s foremost voices of architecture, it is currently the UK’s only 100% paid-for architectural weekly journal, and covers a huge array of topics. From building studies and reviews to news coverage and technical features, The Journal is considered an invaluable publication in the architectural sector, and is highly influential. The Retrofit Awards are certainly no different, as the first and currently only awards for recognising achievements within the fields of design, engineering and construction.

The judges themselves are prestigious individuals in the field of architecture and represent the overall gold standard of contemporary architectural work. There are numerous categories, including Cultural and Public Buildings, Heritage/Listed Buildings, Hotels, Houses Below £250k and Schools, amongst others.

In 2014, Coffey Architects struck gold at the Retrofit Awards, securing the top award in the House under £300k category for the Urban Loft. We were proud to be recognised for this project as we worked hard to produce excellent results on a low budget. We’re hoping to win once again this year with our entry into the House below £250k category and our Modern Side Extension. We’re excitedly anticipating the awards and finding out which architects will be rewarded for their achievements, hard work and dedication to the field.
