There are plans in place for a major educational and cultural quarter to be constructed in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The Olympicopolis project is set to be one of the largest and most ambitious new urban developments to be created in the last century.
The development will consist of a range of different structures centred around technology, education, science and the arts, including new campuses for University of the Arts London, the V&A and Sadler’s Wells. There will also be many new residential properties. The development will generate thousands of new jobs, as well as attracting tourism to the area. The project is set to further cement London’s reputation as one of the world’s leading cultural, educational and creative centres, and the home of some of the most unique examples of residential and commercial architecture.
Since September this year, there has been an ongoing competition to see who will create the designs for this new quarter. More than 1,000 architects, planners and designers from across the world entered the competition. We are happy to say that we are among the architectural practises shortlisted for the job.
We have been selected as part of a team; if we are successful in the next stage of the competition, we will be working on Olympicopolis in collaboration with DRDH Architects, Charcoalblue, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios with Atelier Ten, Grant Associates, Expedition, Gardiner & Theobald, 5th Studio, David Kohn, Hoidn Wang Partner and Thomas Matthews, bringing our diverse skills together to oversee the entire project.
There are five other teams of architectural firms and designers who are shortlisted for this prestigious project. The winning team will be announced in late spring 2015. We look forward to finding out the results and are excited by the opportunity to work on this amazing new development.
