Technology
Architecture has traditionally been a field that is slow to embrace new technology. Even today a number of architects still rely solely on traditional tools. However, failing to use newer tech can restrict originality.
The better option here is to combine new technology with traditional techniques. They can work together to maximise value. Modelling tech in particular can make it easier to explore different things for commercial architecture, facilitating more creativity.
Explore diversity
We have a global world today where it is much easier to travel and experience new things. However, some people don’t take advantage of this in their education and professional life. Unfortunately that can restrict chances to be original because it limits exposure to other ways of doing things.
For architecture, the best thing is to explore a wide cultural and geographical selection of projects. It can create more creative buildings instead of repeating generic designs.
Embrace different materials
A sad thing about design is original ideas can become the norm. At one point an architect may get acclaim for using a different material. However, this originality can soon be replicated so much that it is overdone.
A great thing to try here is to always look at different ways to combine methods and materials. There is no obligation to stick with traditional combinations or ones that become trendy. Experimentation can lead to originality, especially if you remain open to newer, emerging materials or ones not typical in your area.
Don’t get stuck in a rut
Some designers spend far too much time focusing on one specific idea or a very small number of them. However, this is not the best way to be inventive. You are actually limiting yourself massively.
The best approach here is to generate more ideas. Everything you think of may be useful at some point, even if it isn’t immediately obvious. Don’t be afraid to explore and look at different things from many angles. It could lead to the most original designs.
