One of the most important and exciting projects we are presently involved with is the IQL Pavilion. Based near the Olympic site in East London, the bold and ambitious plan for the project is to create a new, dynamic, multi functional international quarter for the city. In terms of this functionality, whilst there’s strong focus being placed on the residential aspect of the project we are involved with the other side. We were proudly awarded the work brief, based on our status as the leading name for commercial architecture in London.
The challenges posed by the design brief are equally substantial and formidable. They are, however, well within our capabilities for success. We are delighted to be playing a significant part in demonstratively highlighting London’s international importance through the form of functional commercial architecture. A particular highlight for us, as is the case with all projects in which we engage, is the priority being placed on addressing the environmental impact of this new international quarter.
A key requirement of our work for the IQL Pavilion project was to ensure that we significantly contributed to the BREEAM Outstanding certification for the buildings was maintained. BREEAM is the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method for assessing and rating the environmental sustainability of structures. This system has been in place since 1990, and Outstanding is the highest rating from the body that it is possible to obtain.
Achieving both ideals of having a true international quarter feel and retaining the BREEAM Outstanding certification status is a big challenge. Fortunately we have great faith in our abilities as the leading commercial architects in London. We have taken an informed approach to our work, enabling us to ensure that all goals and aspirational targets are met.
In terms of measuring the success of the IQL Pavilion project, the first new residents moved in to one of the completed sections towards the end of 2016. There is a wonderful sense of engagement with the project being reported; the sense echoes through the next development stages. We are delighted to be a significant part of this being achieved.
