RIBA Regent Street Windows 2018 Winners

We wrote a previous article about our participation in the RIBA Regent Street Windows 2018 competition and how pleased we were to work with SMEG. We also took a look at some of the other partnerships involved in the competition and their designs. The field was very diverse this year. It was a real celebration of how inspiring window displays can improve commercial architecture.

Award winners

Towards the end of May the winners of the two awards were revealed. We were happy to receive the Best Collaboration Award. It is fantastic that the judges liked our efforts to create a design that was a celebration of the SMEG brand, their products and also their philosophy. It is a really intricate design that is elegant and captivating.

The second award was the People’s Choice. People who took the time to view the displays could vote for their favourite. The winner was Thomas-McBrien Architects in collaboration with Paper & Wood for Jo Malone London. Their display was an English garden. It was bright, colourful, and also utilised signature scents from the perfume maker.

Commendation

Although they did not secure an award, Nicholas Szczepaniak Architects working with L’Occitane got a high commendation. Their design took inspiration from the light in Provence that so many artists appreciate.

This was the eighth year of the competition and brought even more attention to the commercial architecture and businesses on Regent’s Street. This is one of the busiest shopping destinations in the whole of London but shops still need to attract people to come inside. A great window display can do just that.
