High rise structures make great use of space

New York City is full of impressive high rise buildings. Architects and developers have long since focused on building upwards due to the lack of space, particularly in Manhattan. Around Central Park there is a number of stunning properties, especially on the side referred to as Billionaires’ Row.

Further information was recently revealed about plans to create a brand new high rise residential and commercial building in this part of New York City. The project will now be a joint US-Chinese venture. When finished the 472 metre building, currently referred to as Central Park Tower, will become the second tallest in the city.

The project is expected to cost an incredible $3 billion. Even with this huge price tag it is anticipated that it will generate a fantastic return, particularly with the value of properties in New York in mind.

The building is being designed by a team of architects who specialise in super tall structures. Their credentials are impressive, having been behind the 830 metre tall Burj Khalifa in Dubai. They also designed the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, the skyscraper currently under construction and expected to take the title as the world’s tallest when it is finished.

If everything goes to plan Central Park Tower will be completed by 2019. It is expected that the sale of homes in the building will begin later this year after designs are released.

At Coffey Architects we understand the advantages that building upwards can offer, both in terms of residential and commercial architecture. We see this same approach being utilised throughout London as a result of the lack of space. We view large buildings as a source of inspiration, particularly when they have unique designs and enrich the area around them.

Although we design buildings on a smaller scale we do take the same idea towards utilising space effectively. We believe in making the maximum use of all spaces available, ensuring they provide the absolute highest value. As part of this we can redevelop existing properties or create brand new buildings. We are particularly well regarded when it comes to extensions, winning several prizes for our work.
