The future of London’s architecture

London attracts huge numbers of tourists each and every year, and is a worldwide hub of business and culture. Due to this, it’s constantly changing and evolving to meet current demands. This also applies to the city’s architectural landscape and how it will be adapted in the future. As professional architects, we understand the importance of keeping up with people’s changing circumstances and creating architecture which reflects their needs.

The architecture of London is iconic and recognisable across the world, meaning that it is important to retain its most important features during regeneration. A display is coming to London to offer a visualisation of the future of commercial architecture in the city. It will show the impact that changing lifestyles, demographics and technologies might mean for our cities in 2065.

Professionals from the industry have come together to depict their ideas for what the future has to offer London, and their visions encompass everything from contemporary domed constructions and complex infrastructures to tranquil green areas. Cities are recognised as the heart of social, economic and cultural life in today’s world and the population in these areas is expected to increase by as much as 25% within the next 50 years. While this will create many challenges, it will also provide an opportunity for reinvention and evolution, focusing on a better quality of life for all.

The display draws on the works of RIBA and the Foresight Future of Cities Projects, exploring the possibilities of future urban challenges over the coming decades. This is the perfect event for those who are interested in commercial architecture or would simply like to see what industry professionals predict the city will look like in the year 2065. It runs from the 10th of February to the 31st of March 2015 and is located at The Practice Space on Portland Place.
